HESTA, a prominent Australian superannuation fund, has announced a reduction in insurance fees for its members, effective from July 1, 2026.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to offer more accessible and affordable insurance coverage, particularly in light of the current economic climate and rising cost-of-living pressures.

Under the new fee structure, members will experience an average decrease of approximately 6% for death cover and nearly 15% for Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) cover. Additionally, income protection fees will see reductions ranging from 1.4% to 23.5%, depending on the benefit period. These adjustments are designed to alleviate financial burdens on members while ensuring they maintain essential insurance coverage.

HESTA's CEO, Debby Blakey, emphasised the significance of this move, stating that providing affordable insurance is crucial for members, especially during challenging economic times. The fund has renewed its longstanding partnership with AIA Australia to facilitate these changes, ensuring that members continue to receive comprehensive and reliable insurance services.

For small to medium business owners, this development is particularly relevant. Many business owners rely on superannuation funds like HESTA for their retirement planning and associated insurance needs. Reduced insurance fees can lead to significant savings, allowing business owners to allocate resources more effectively within their enterprises.

Moreover, HESTA has introduced additional benefits for members on parental leave. These members will be able to maintain their insurance cover without paying fees for up to 12 months, with an extension to 24 months for those whose babies are born prematurely. This policy aims to support members during critical life events, ensuring continuous coverage without added financial strain.

In conclusion, HESTA's decision to lower insurance fees reflects a commitment to supporting its members through affordable and accessible insurance options.
