Before applying, households can estimate how much cover may be needed by looking at debts, income replacement, savings, superannuation and existing insurance.

The broader message is that life insurance comparison should be treated as a suitability exercise, not a quick price check. Premiums matter, especially when household budgets are under pressure, but claims outcomes depend on policy design, disclosure, underwriting and administration. A well-matched policy is one that is affordable enough to keep, clear enough to understand, and robust enough to support the people it is meant to protect when it is needed most.
